Just like buses - two come along at once! What a few weeks it has been! August is usually a quiet month for us with many of our customers being away on their holidays - and of course we try and chase the sun somewhere too.
Well so much for a quiet August - we have been so busy being media moguls!
Just when we thought we'd have a gentle run up to our long awaited for break, we received two phone calls.....the first asking if we'd consider being on the radio, and the second enquiring if we would run a workshop for a Channel 4 programme called Bite! Hmmmm, now let me think about that for a moment....yes, Yes, YES!
Sorry - no recipe in this edition of the newsletter as I still need to go home and pack, feed that cats and kittens (8 weeks old now and go to their new homes when we're back from holiday) and check that the children have put aside clothes, ipods, toys and all the paraphernalia they want to take with them! Oh yes - and Hampton have their first home league game so I'll be there tonight cheering them on!
As an apology for no recipe and a rushed newsletter - anyone ordering over £15 of goods from the website while we are away can put 'kittens' into the voucher box to receive a free gift with their order. All orders will be prepared and dispatched when we get back (end of August). |

Making Cosmetics on the Radio! Our first 'live on air' meant us leaving very early in the morning as we were to feature on BBC Radio Solent's breakfast show. This meant us being fresh and raring to go by 8am - difficult enough on any day, but the night before both Alison and I had been at a football match (yes, yes, I know - pink, pefume, cosmetics and glitter...football just doesn't seem to match the profile does it?)
Long story - save it for another newsletter - but our local team (Hampton & Richmond) were playing West Ham United and we weren't going to give up a chance to meet the likes of Craig Bellamy and Scott Parker...a few goals and glasses of wine later, it seemed like it was time to get up, cup of black coffee and hit the M3 Southampton bound!
On air, we made lipgloss (fabulous for dry radio presenters lips and precisely the colour that she was wearing to her sister's wedding so that was a big hit!). Jon Cuthill, the main programme presenter, made a face mask which we insisted was mostly edible. So yes, he did tuck into dried wild yam, strawberry extract and cucmber powder - the grimaces he pulled were quite amazing as he did is "yes, rather delicous, definitely a must for breakfast anytime" spiel.
All in all it was a very fun couple of hours - I have been promised a copy of the recording so will see what I can do to include it on the website..... even if you only listen to how Jon sounds when his face mask tightened and he is live on air! |

From Radio to Television! It should have been last Thursday but the presenter was held up, so instead we delayed it until today - and I'm due to go on holiday in 8 hours!! Yes, today was the day that Channel 4 came to the shop!
The programme is called 'Bite' and it features a group of young, trendy girls zooming around the UK trying out the latest gadgets and trends. Natural cosmetics.....they all fought over who was coming and Zena won!
What a fabulous time - Zena, the presenter, has a love of anything pink and anything butterfly-ish...so she was completely at home in our pink butterfly haven of a shop!
Zena made a pink and a pink and gold lip gloss, a strawberry and pink clay yoghurt face mask (pink pampering pack) and 'ME!', a perfume designed and made by Zena.
With a bit of luck, the show will be available on line within a few weeks and I will link it to the Plush Folly website. I can't wait to see it, Zena has a wicked sense of humour and there were so many comments made about massage bars, puckering up and generally lying down to relax that unless massively edited, will deserve a place after the watershed !
** UPDATE ** Watch the programme here - Plush Folly are the third 'bite' in!
