bath_fizz_1Glitter Bubbly Fizz

180g bicarbonate of soda
60g citric acid
20g sodium cocoyl isothionate (SCI)
Blue liquid colouring
4g geranium essential oil
A quarter of a teaspoon of cosmetic grade glitter

For a mould use an ice cube tray or similar

1. Combine the bicarbonate of soda with the citric acid in a large bowl and mix well using your hands or a spoon. Break up any lumps until you have a consistent mixture. Avoid breathing in the mixture as it may cause you to sneeze! Wear thin rubber/polythene/latex gloves if you wish to protect your hands.

2. Add the the SCI to the bowl and mix well.

3. Add the blue liquid colouring and stir well (and quickly to prevent hte mixture from fizzing)

4. Add the geranium essential oil, then add the cosmetic grade glitter and mix well.

5. Squeeze a little of the mixture in the palm of your hand. If it sticks together and holds its shape then the mixture is ready to put into moulds. If it is still a little crumbly, add a tiny amount of water and tstir quickly (adding water will cause the mixture to fizz up. DO NOT ADD TOO MUCH WATER OR YOUR MIXTURE WILL FIZZ WHEN PLACED IN THE MOULDS).

Squeeze again - if the mixture holds together like damp sand then you have the correct consistency.

6. Fill the mould as tight as you can with the bath fizz mixture. Press down with your fingers to compact the mixture. If you have any mixture left over, you can use any small shape or container as a mould.

7. Wash your hands after completing end ensure that they are thoroughly dry before cleaning up.

rose_bath_fizzRose Petal Fizz

180g bicarbonate of soda
60g citric acid
dried rose petals
Red liquid colouring
4g rose fragrance oil

For a mould use an ice cube tray or similar

1. Place a few of the rose petals in the base of each ice cube tray compartment

3. Add the rose fragrance oil and mix thoroughly until the fragrance oil is absorbed.

4. Add a few drops of the red liquid colouring.

NOTE: - As soon as you add any liquid colouring, the mixture will start fizzing. Quickly cover the fizzing mixture with some of the non-fizzing mixture in the bowl to 'control' it.

5. Mix in the colour so that it is evenly distributed, adding a little more ( quickly covering the fizzing mixture) as necessary until you reach the colour you desire.

6. Squeeze a little of the mixture in the palm of your hand. If it sticks together and holds its shape then the mixture is ready to put into moulds. If it is still a little crumbly, add a tiny amount of water and treat it as if it is liquid colour as it will cause the mixture to fizz up. DO NOT ADD TOO MUCH WATER OR YOUR MIXTURE WILL FIZZ WHEN PLACED IN THE MOULDS.

Once you have the correct consistency and it is holding its shape when squeezed you can start to pack the moulds.

7. Fill the mould as tight as you can with the bath fizz mixture. Press down with your fingers to compact the mixture. If you have any mixture left over, you can use any small shape or container as a mould.

8. Wash your hands after completing step 7 and ensure that they are thoroughly dry before cleaning up.

fizz_14Lemon Butter Fizz

180g bicarbonate of soda
60g citric acid
20g cocoa butter

1. Melt the cocoa butter either in a bowl over hot water, or in a microwaveable bowl (melt using short bursts of microwave power)

3. Add the melted cocoa butter and stir.

4. Add the lemon essential oil and mix thoroughly until the essential oil is absorbed.

fizz_11Sheer Bliss Bath Melts

These look so beautiful - and you can stick silk or dried flowers on top to make them look even more stunning. Little sugarcraft flowers work just as well and will dissolve in the bath.

50g shea butter
25g sweet almond oil
100g bicarbonate of soda
50g citric acid
3g angelica fragrance oil
water soluble colouring

Place the shea butter in a plastic jug. Soften the shea butter a little by giving it a few short bursts in a microwave until it is soft enough to easily prod your finger into. Add the sweet almond oil and beat using a handheld whisk (you can use a fork, but you will end up with a sore arm!) until it is light and fluffy and looks rather like an uncooked meringue mixture.

Put to one side and measure out the bicarbonate of soda and ctiric acid. Mix together in a bowl and set to one side.

Meanwhile, go back and give the shea butter/oil another whisk.

Add the angelica fragrance oil to your shea butter/oil mixture and beat again until thoroughly blended. Gradually add the bicarbonate/citric acid mixture beating after you have added about 50g (in other words, you'll be adding the bicarbonate of soda/citric acid mixutre in three almost-equal lots).

Give the mixture one final whisk (although this won't be so easy now as it will have become more solid with the bicarb/citric mixture added).

Add a little of your chosen colour and mix until thoroughly blended. Spoon into little cake cases or whatever you wish your mixture to set in. Decorate with glitter, jewels, flowers and leave somewhere to set for at least 12 hours.

Directions: Drop one into a warm bath and enjoy the sparkling aroma.

Caution: May make bath slippery

Shelf Life - 12 months

salt_scrubDry Sugar Mud Scrub

This one is oh so simple and yet oh so effective!

Whilst we've called it a dry scrub, you will want to add a little olive oil to ensure that the sugar 'clumps' rather than just falls through your fingers. How much you use is up to you and will depend on whether you've gone for the more absorbant caster sugar or not. You can't add too much, so just tip in a little at a time until you have the texture you want.

50g granulated or caster sugar (depending on how 'scratchy' you want it to be!)
10g dead sea mud
10g - 20g olive oil
15 drops of essential oil

Combine sugar, mud and oil in a suitable container (plastic jug or bowl). Add the essential oils and mix well.

Place in plastic bag or small jar and label. Yes, it's that easy!

Directions - massage onto damp skin then wash/rinse off
Caution - may make bath or shower floor slippery

Shelf life - 6 months

citrus_scrubHappy Scrub

300g fine pink Himalayan salt

20g grapeseed oil
65g cherry kernel oil
65g mango butter
2.5ml orange essential oil
2.5ml bergamot essential oil

Place the pink salt into a jug or bowl
Pour over the glycerine, grapeseed and cherry kernel oils
Leave to seep for five minutes
Whilst waiting, gently melt or soften the mango butter
Add the softened/melted mango butter to the oils/salts mixture and stir well
Adjust to your desired consistency by adding more liquid oils/salts depending on whether you want more of a gloopy, slurry or fairly solid scrub
Add the essential oils and stir well to ensure that they are thoroughly incorporated in the scrub mixture

Place into a jar and label so that you can identify the contents
