Having run her own successful handmade cosmetics business starting at school and village fairs and progressing to Harrods, Fortnums and salons both nationally and internationally, and at landmark occasions such as The Chelsea Flower Show, Sally is well placed to discuss the pros, cons, success and pitfalls of making and selling handmade cosmetics and home fragranced products.

Since 2007 Sally has helped and mentored many students set up their own successful businesses.

Today, Sally’s specialist knowledge areas include preparing cosmetic product safety reports for assessment, allergen and IFRA calculations, record keeping and labelling of cosmetic and home fragranced products, CLP, design and production of products such as home fragrance products, soap (cold and hot process methods and melt and pour), scented body care products.


How does it work?

Econsultancy

Once you have placed and paid for your order for eConsultancy, we will send you a short questionnaire / consultation paper asking you to detail the type of help you require.  You will need to complete this questionnaire and return it to us so that we can scope and schedule the work needed.  If you are ordering the 'technical question' eConsultancy then you need not fill in the form should you not wish to do so but simply send an email with your question in it once you have purchased this service.

As well as during office hours eConsultancy is often carried out in the evenings or at weekends.  This means that we should be able to schedule the work to take place within 2-3 weeks of receipt of the questionnaire, often sooner.

Types of work could include:

  • Ad-hoc product / ingredient questions
  • Advising on information required for your cosmetic product safety report checking the completed safety report prior to submission to your cosmetic chemist
  • Helping you identify key selling points/ create press releases / where to advertise etc. when you are ready to launch
  • General question/answer session, problem solving and advice
  • CLP advice
  • Helping you to create your product labels (Cosmetic and CLP) and identifying the allergens and other safety information that need to be listed
  • Product label creation / checking your label(s)
  • GMP advice and creation
     

Please note that formulating from scratch is not included as part of our eConsultancy service.  We recommend our comprehensive eLearning courses to assist you with formulations.

If you are unsure whether to purchase 30 minutes or one hour’s eConsultancy, we recommend purchasing the 30 minutes option.  When we scope the work we can advise whether we can give you the help you require in the allocated time. 

In the event that you need to extend your session to one hour, we will charge the top-up amount to make your total cost equal the one hour consultancy fee.

If we feel we are unable to carry out your request we will make a full refund.

Consultancy

Once you have placed and paid for your order for Consultancy, you will be sent a link to a questionnaire / consultation paper asking you to detail the type of help you require.

You will need to complete this questionnaire and return it to us so that we can scope and schedule the work needed.  We will contact you to arrange a convenient date and time for your face to face consultancy session as these are by appointment only.

All face to face consultation sessions take place at our Plush Folly premises.

Types of work could include:

  • A theoretical session helping you to create and structure blends for your products (soap, candles, reed diffusers, bath fizz, creams, body butters, perfumes etc)
  • Testing your product and advising on possible changes, improvements and beneficial impact  
  • Advising on information required for your cosmetic product safety report checking the completed safety report prior to submission to your cosmetic chemist
  • Advising on information required for your cosmetic product safety report checking the completed safety report prior to submission to your cosmetic chemist
  • CLP help and advice
  • Helping you identify key selling points/ create press releases / where to advertise etc. when you are ready to launch
  • General question/answer session, problem solving and advice

Product Review

We are pleased to offer you the opportunity to have your product's formulation reviewed and commented on by the Plush Folly team.  Please note that this is not a cosmetic product safety report but professional feedback on the formulation of your product.

How does it work?

  • You send a sample of your product to Plush Folly with a completed copy of the Product Review Form (a link to the form will be emailed to you once the order has been processed).
  • The Plush Folly panel will then test your product and comment on aroma/skin feel/texture/appearance/suitability for purpose/structure - or whatever is deemed relevant for your product.  
  • We will email our feedback to you so that you have helpful and honest opinions from our team of experts.
  • For those purchasing the Certificate In… e-Learning courses (with the exception of the Cosmetic Legislation course), one product review is included in the course fee. 
  • Please note that this is not a Cosmetic Product Safety Report - this is a review of the product in terms of skin/hair feel, benefits, aroma and whatever else is relevant for your product.
  • A discount is available if you wish us to review three or more products.
