Making Creams, Lotions and Body Butters
Duration: Full day (10.15am -4:30pm)
Prerequisites: No previous experience required
We limit the class size to eight to ensure that students have sufficient time to tailor-make their own products, ask questions and to allow the tutor to focus on specific student needs.
Description: A jam-packed informative, fun, hands-on workshop aimed at students who have little skin care making experience or are new to making their own skin care products. It is a balance between theory and practical sessions that will give you the skills and knowledge to be able to make body butters and luxurious face creams.
Use a range of gorgeous and beneficial ingredients and let your inner scientist emerge as you create delicious products to take home and enjoy. Whip up the perfect moisturising, silky skin face cream and richly hydrating body butter. You'll never want to use commercially made creams again once you've tried making and using your own.

The advantages of making your own creamsUsing equipment - being safe, hygienic and measuring accurately (warning there may be some maths here!)
Behaviour, active properties and benefits of a range of cosmetic ingredients including:
carrier oils, butters and waxes
floral waters and essential oils
emulsifiers, antioxidants and preservatives
extracts and vitamins
Ingredients to enhance the feel, behaviour and effectiveness of your products
Treating skin conditions and ailments
Packaging and storing your products
Product shelf life
During this course you will be introduced to a range of specialist skin care oils, extracts and additives and understand how they benefit different skin types and help treat a variety of skin conditions. You will learn how to enhance your products so that they feel silkier and smoother, thicker or thinner, richer or lighter when applied and understand which ingredients will help them penetrate the skin better.
We will discuss how to keep your ingredients and products fresh in order to maximise their shelf life as well as discussing and comparing a number of different preservatives.
By the end of the course you will know how to formulate a range of creams, lotions and body butters that outperform commercial products.
